Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith stated on a podcast in late June that Muslims should be banned from public calls to prayer and said states should prohibit mosques from using loudspeakers for the five daily Adhan. Beckwith falsely characterized the Islamic call to prayer as "words of death and destruction" and incorrectly claimed the Supreme Court has ruled that Christianity takes precedence over other religions. Following Beckwith's statements, threats against Indiana mosques increased, forcing mosques across the state to hire additional security at prayer times.
