Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry suspended the May 16 primary election for US House seats one day after the Supreme Court ruled the state's congressional map an unconstitutional gerrymander, while allowing the Senate primary to proceed on the same date. Early voting had already begun and overseas ballots had been mailed, forcing a court challenge and new redistricting effort. State legislators say they can redraw the map and reschedule the House primary within their session ending June 1, but Democratic Rep. Cleo Fields expects legal challenges to the suspension.
