Paul Quinn, 52, was convicted of a 2003 rape in Manchester that Andrew Malkinson spent 17 years in prison for before his conviction was overturned in 2023. Quinn's DNA, found on the victim's vest, was matched to him in 2022 through advances in DNA testing — a match that should have exonerated Malkinson decades earlier when the sample was recovered in 2007. Greater Manchester Police and the Independent Office for Police Conduct have both acknowledged serious failings in how the case was handled, with six officers now under investigation.
