A German court convicted an Iraqi man (Twana H.S.) of life imprisonment for enslaving two Yazidi girls—ages five and 12—in Iraq and Syria between 2015 and 2017. He subjected them to forced labor including household work and childcare, along with torture and sexual abuse before handing them to other ISIS members. His co-defendant, his former partner, received 9.5 years. The Munich Higher Regional Court found both guilty of genocide, crimes against humanity, enslavement, and ISIS membership — part of Germany's broader effort to prosecute ISIS members for atrocities against Yazidis. This conviction represents a rare prosecution by a Western country of ISIS members for systematic enslavement and abuse of religious minorities.
