A 75-year-old California vineyard owner and experienced big-game hunter, Ernie Dosio, was killed on April 17 when five elephants with a calf ambushed him and his professional guide in Gabon's rainforest while he was hunting for yellow-backed duiker antelope. The elephants charged with such speed and density of undergrowth that the professional hunter lost his rifle immediately; Dosio was left with only a shotgun before being fatally trampled.
