Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney formed a new Canada-U.S. advisory committee chaired by federal trade minister Dominic LeBlanc as the USMCA review process begins. Carney is attempting to negotiate a reduction or elimination of various tariffs by simultaneously addressing security and defense concerns ahead of the USMCA renegotiation. By July 1, 2026, the three countries must either extend the USMCA for 16 years as-is, approve revisions, or begin a 10-year sunset countdown ending the agreement in 2036.
