The head of the International Energy Agency warned Thursday that Europe has roughly six weeks of jet fuel remaining due to the Strait of Hormuz blockade caused by the US-Israel war on Iran, with flight cancellations likely within weeks if the strait remains closed. The blockade has created what he called the largest energy crisis in history, with developing nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America facing the worst consequences through higher fuel and electricity prices that could push some economies toward recession. Over 110 tankers and 15 LNG carriers are stuck in the Persian Gulf waiting to transit, and even if the strait reopens, war damage to 80+ regional energy facilities means production won't return to pre-conflict levels for up to two years. Airlines including KLM have already begun cutting flights and raising fares in response to the kerosene shortage.
