Church and graveyard grounds across Ireland are being converted into wildlife habitats for birds, bees, and bats through a biodiversity initiative inspired by Pope Francis's environmental teachings. The project started in Clare in 2023 and has since expanded to over 22 Catholic and Church of Ireland sites across six counties plus Knock Shrine. This represents a practical example of faith communities acting on papal calls for environmental stewardship, turning underused sacred ground into functioning ecosystems.
